hope you feel better soon!
Tumblr media
I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

Danny finds a new nap spot. Natives are worried.
Ever since Danny became a Halfa, his house hasn't been the safest place to rest at. Its filled with his parents experiments and automatic weaponry and hasn't felt like home for a while. He feels bad having to sleep at Tucker's place and Sam's parents don't really like him but he needs to rest somewhere.
Cue the Ocean 0.0
He hasn't needed to breathe in a long time and having a secondary source of energy for his core would lessen the amount of food he needed to eat.
It's massive and mysterious and he can explore it until his core is satisfied. The sun makes such nice warm spots perfect for naping and with Clockworks help he can make it there in almost no time.
With his parents spending most of the evening and night in their lab or outside the house, he can spend most of his night sleeping there and with a semi-regular sleep schedule at that.
No one even notices hes gone.
The Atlantians sure know hes there though.
Granted they don't notice he's there at first. He finds the perfect space to sleep and doesn't move until its time to go to the surface, but when they notice. They Notice .
Brave researchers acompanied by soldiers try to collect samples of hair and scale and maybe even blood but come up with little to nothing. While they can touch the being, any attempt to remove anything leads to it slipping through their fingers like the water that surounds them.
The only good thing is that the creature seems to be peaceful, only sleeping and then leaving. (where he leaves to, no one knows. They aren't sure they even want to know)

Sweeter than sugar warnings: none, just cute fluff - the Polar Tang has landed in a town, and Law suddenly has a sweet craving, no established relationship pairing: Law x f!reader (gender neutral, no pronouns or specific physical characteristics, but just in case)
——————
You felt a hand ghost across the small of your back that made you look up - gold tinted eyes gazed down at you, peeking through the shadows casted by his white leopard hat.
“Captain,” you greeted happily.
“You wandered away from Bepo,” Law noted. “Be careful with the crowds.”
“Sorry,” you said sheepishly. The Heart Pirates had landed in a small town for some much needed reprieve from the violent waters. Supplies needed to be replenished, but it was also nice to explore and mingle amongst the locals, for some reminisce of a normal life.
You wandered yourself to the heart of the town, where a festival was taking place. Local hawkers yelled out their sales and specials, enticing passerbys with free samples and unique inventory. Children were weaving in and out between the crowds, while music could be heard from all corners of the town centre. Your eyes sparkled at the excitement and your curiosity led you away from the First Mate - Bepo had told you to stay close. But it was not missed by the Surgeon of Death as he silently followed you. He kept his distance, not wanting youto feel suffocated - he respected the space of his crew, knowing that the small confines of the submarine left no breathing room. But he didn’t feel easy leaving you by yourself.
It wasn’t until he felt an unsettling presence, and his eyes scanned the crowd to see that you did not go unnoticed by a few lurkers in the crowd. Law’s hand gripped tighter on his sword, as he felt something stir inside of him and he closed the distance between them. His hand automatically reached out to gently brush against your back and he dipped his head closer to you.
“Y/N-ya.” His deep baritone voice and breath warmed your ear, and you looked up.
“Captain, do you think we can buy snacks for the crew?” You asked thoughtfully, pointing towards some candied packages, and pastries.
“Just the necessities,” he chided gently, and a slight pout appeared on your face.
“Bepo ate my stash,” you complained. A slight smirk ghosted the corner of his lips, and he sighed.
“Fine. Just don’t go crazy.” Your eyes lit up even more than he thought they would, and he felt his heart skip a beat. He followed you to a pastry stall, as you began listing off the things you wanted to the vendor.
“Would you like a sample? The filling is made from a native fruit in our region! Not too sweet,” the vendor said, handing them a tray of small samples. You took one excitedly, but Law gave a slight shake of his head politely turning it down.
“This is so good!” You gasped, and before Law could stop you, you added a few dozen more to your order. As you reached into your pouch for payment, Law wordlessly reached over and gave the vendor payment. “Captain…!” You said in surprise.
“You went overboard - but just this time,” he grumbled. “I’m taking a cut out of your next share if you do it again.” But he knew he wouldn’t be able to do that as you smiled sweetly at him.
As you walked away, you were finishing off a free pastry the vendor kindly gave you - Law noticed some pastry flakes and sugar just on your cheek. He wasn’t sure what over came him but his next actions would have sent his crew into hysteria if they saw.
Leaning down, he used one hand to gently cup your face. His tongue slipped out to lick up the crumbs and sugar that dusted your cheek, his lips ghosting across your smooth skin. There was a subtle sweetness that didn’t come from the pastry, and he knew he would want a taste of it again all too soon.
“Captain!” You squeaked, your face bright red as you almost dropped everything you were holding. A definite smirk was on his face as he leaned back.
“It’s not bad,” he murmured, and his eyes flickered to your soft supple lips that still had remnants of the pastry. As he drew closer to you , you squeezed your eyes shut, not sure what to do , your heart pounding out of your chest.
“CAPTAIN! DID YOU BUY PASTRIES?”
Law quickly pulled away from you and his eyes resumed its stern look as he stared at Bepo , Shachi and Penguin. When they got closer, they saw your flustered expression. “Are you okay y/n? Did our Captain say something?” Shachi asked curiously.
“Or do something naughty? You look red,” Penguin chimed in.
“You guys are too assuming I would do something scandalous,” Law scoffed. “Why is that?”
“Because y/n is cute,” Shachi and Penguin said at the same time. A vein twitched on the side of Law’s temple. “You would take advantage of them - you’re not exactly as stoic and stiff as you make yourself to be.”
“How many pastries did you get?” Bepo frowned, completely ignoring the ongoing conversation. “How did you pay for this?”
“Um I didn’t ,” you said shyly but grateful for a shift in the topic.
“Who did?” Bepo asked in shock. There was a moment of silence and they all stared at Law incredulously , as he tugged his hat further down his head.
“No way,” Penguin gawked.
“Captain would never with us -“ Shachi choked.
“Is the Captain going to give y/n a bigger allowance than me?” Bepo fretted.
“Shut up you guys - we’re leaving,” Law snapped, as he pushed past them. “Bepo - carry y/n ’s things.”
“Aye aye Captain!” Bepo saluted.
As they followed their brooding captain back to the yellow sub, Shachi and Penguin tried to keep up with Law.
“You got it bad for y/n, don’t ya?” Shachi teased.
“So you DID do something naughty to y/n!” Penguin poked at him.
“Is our captain a pervert?”
Law groaned and immediately barked out : “Room!” Followed by “Shambles!” The two Heart Pirates disappeared with the blue glow, only to be replaced with a random rock.
He was not gonna hear the end of this. But as the Polar Tang was about to submerge, you passed by Law on the way into the submarine. He was too busy barking at Shachi and Penguin to get inside, when he felt you gently tug on his black coat. You pulled him down, and quickly kissed him on the cheek, your own cheeks flushed, and you could barely meet his gaze.
“…. For the pastries,” you mumbled. “Thank you.”
Law smirked and gently ruffled up your hair.
“Go inside,” he murmured softly. And as you left, the only thing he could think about was how soft your lips were and what they would taste like the next time he got a moment alone with you .

FAMILY LINE | EVAN BUCKLEY
Tumblr media
gif credit
pairing: Evan Buckley x fem!reader
summary: at the end, Buck was home.
warning: slow burn, cursing, abusive family
masterlist
................................
here you were, your first day all over again. but this time, all by yourself.
it was strange to enter a new station, different trucks, different layouts, even the smell was different. this feeling wasn't new, but it was the first time you weren't afraid of what might happen, quite the opposite, you were eager to see what life had in store for you.
"you must be the new girl" a fireman caught your eye and snapped you out of your daydreams.
"that should be me" you replied with a smile, which he quickly returned. you followed him upstairs, where you found the whole house gathered around a table, having breakfast.
"Bobby, I've found a lost newbie for you" he winked at you and then sat down at the table with the others.
"I'm Bobby, the captain. welcome to 118."
"Where are you from, Strand?" Diaz. that was the name of the person who asked.
"New York" you replied in a few words.
"wow, that's awesome. I'm dying to visit there" a blue-eyed man commented with a huge smile on his lips and automatically your eyes ran to his lips. "maybe now that we have a guide, 118 could go and..."
"easy, Buck, you'll scare her off in the first few seconds at the station" Bobby said, making you laugh, and you could see Buck's cheeks redden.
while everyone bombarded you with questions about NY, and you tried your best to avoid questions about your family or your past, you could feel a pair of blue eyes staring at you the whole time. every now and then while you were answering someone, your eyes would catch on his smile, on how easily he laughed, on how comfortable he seemed around everyone. It seemed very easy to like Evan Buckley
*
you hated Evan Buckley.
a few months were enough to show how immature, irresponsible, sampled and... womanizer he was.
how could he just walk into the fire without permission, even though Bobby gave him specific orders not to? how could he date a different woman every week? I mean, it’s not your business, but still. how could he not appreciate all the people who cared about him and continue to show off all the damn time? you just couldn't deal with him. his silly jokes, his opened smile, his blue eyes... you just hated Evan Buckley.
"okay, hold on. why do you hate me so much?" he said to you when he noticed you rolling your eyes at something he was saying. everyone at the table turned to you and you felt your face redden.
"i don't hate you"
"but you certainly don't like him" Chim added and you rolled your eyes again.
"It's not like that-"
"you roll your eyes every time he speaks" it was Hen's turn. Jesus, were these people your friends?
"I-"
"and you get away from him every time he starts talking" Eddie added.
"ouch" Buck said hurt and you took control again.
"okay, fine" you started and all eyes were on you "I think it's ridiculous the way you don't care about the people around you" you let out and before he could reply you gathered all your courage to poured out the rest. "you have so many people who love you and care for you, and I get the feeling that you don't care about any of it. you go into the fire without caring if you'll come back, you don't respect Bobby's orders when he tells you to evacuate a building, and you're always trying to play the hero. but guess what, you're not a hero! you're Buck, a human who gets hurt, who one day might not make it out of a burning building, in fact, you've almost died more times than I can count. and you don't even care about that, you don't care about the fact that you have a sister who loves you and would be destroyed without you, that your friends would suffer without you, that Cristopher would be devastated without you, that Bobby would lose a son! I don't think that's fair, because you have this and don’t care, while there are people out there who don't have any of that, no one who cares if you're going to come home. I don't have that, and I-I..."
everyone was silent listening to you talk and you didn't notice that your eyes were full of tears. you tried to pull yourself together and when Bobby started to say something, you interrupted him.
"I'm sorry. none of this is any of my business."
the rest of the day sucked. everyone tried to talk to you about your outburst and you ran away from literally everyone, all the time. everyone except Buck, he was avoiding you too. you were feeling like shit. as soon as the shift was over, you got dressed and left as quickly as possible, thinking about the possibilities you had of crawling into the covers and never coming out again.
"hey" you jumped scared as you tried to open the door to your apartment and turned back frightened and trembling. "sorry, I didn't mean to scare you"
"I keep forgetting that you're my neighbor," you answered Buck with a sigh and he smiled.
"in my defense, I lived here long before you arrived" he was smiling. after everything you said to him earlier, he was smiling at you. you were an idiot.
"look-"
"I-" you started talking together and he signaled for you to speak.
"I'm sorry about earlier-"
"you don't have to-" he cut you off but you didn't let him finish either.
"yes Buck, I do have to apologize. it's absolutely not your fault that I'm frustrated, that I don't have anyone who cares about me the way you do. I was extremely selfish and childish, it's not your fault at all. I was upset and I took it out on you. I'm sorry."
"You know you were right" he replied "I'm irresponsible, I know that. I-I know that one day I might not come back from a call, and I know I'm not a hero, but if I die saving one life, that's enough for me."
that just broke you down more. you really were an idiot. Buck was just a man with the right motivations, but the wrong methods.
*
the day was strange, something was off. and it wasn't even the fact that you woke up vomiting your guts out. it was something... different. you went to work anyway, took some nausea pills and left.
"hey, you okay?" buck stopped you as you were leaving the bathroom after throwing up for the third time this morning and you nodded. you felt like crying.
"I'll be fine" you said, but your voice was far from confident and it was Buck's turn to roll his eyes at you.
"come on, let's get you some water." he led you upstairs and sat you down at the table. "Bobby taught me a recipe of a wonderful soup for days like these, you'll feel brand new" he said excitedly and you smiled.
"Buck, thanks but you don't have to"
things were still awkward between you, you still felt bad about the things you'd said and Buck still seemed to tread on eggshells around you, but when you were around each other, he never put you off or made you feel bad.
and you kind of hated Buck a little more because of it. he had every right to dislike you, but he never held any grudges against you, quite the opposite, he seemed to enjoy your presence. despite the situation between you.
"hey what's going on?" Eddie asked, coming into the kitchen.
"I-"
"she's not feeling well"
"who's not feeling well?" Hen asked worriedly, sitting down next to you, and you couldn't answer again as Buck pointed at you.
"I caught her throwing up just now" he replied and Hen turned worriedly to you.
"you're feverish and pale" she said, touching your face.
"who's sick?" Chim came up to you chewing a snack and everyone pointed at you.
"she was vomiting and has a fever. we can administer medication into her vein, for nausea and the fever"
"guys, I'll be fine. it's just food poisoning, I'll wake up better tomorrow" no one seemed to believe you and you laughed softly. was that the feeling of being looked after?
"Strand, I've got someone for you," Bobbie said coming up the stairs and when you turned, you couldn't have been more surprised to see who was there.
"dad?" your stomach churned, but you took a deep breath, you weren't going to throw up now.
everyone was looking at the scene curiously, you'd never spoken of your father before, or anything involving your past, apart from the little confession a few days ago when you'd shouted at Buck. but the atmosphere was tense, your eyes were wide and you took a few steps back, which didn't go unnoticed by Buck, who, when looked at Bobby, realized that the older man had noticed the same thing.
"hello daughter" Owen Strand had that stupid grin on his lips.
"what are you doing here?" you were nauseous, your head was spinning and your hands were shaking. this couldn't be happening.
"we've come to take you home" was when you noticed your brother standing next to your father. TK had that look of guilt, the same one you saw before you left them behind.
"maybe you should go to my office for some privacy" Bobby said as he noticed the mood in the room.
"no!" you were quick to say, too quick. Buck unconsciously approached you and the moment you felt his presence at your side, you moved closer. now it was clear to everyone that something was wrong. you were frightened. suddenly everyone assumed a defensive posture, aware of what was happening.
"sis, come on" it was TK's turn to speak and as he realized that you had taken another step back, you saw the look of pain flash across his eyes. you were afraid of him.
"okay, let's get this show over with and get out of here. I'm getting tired of you" Owen tried to grab your arm but before you could pull away, the boys moved faster. Buck and Eddie got in front of you while Bobby pulled Owen away.
"okay, let's calm down here, Captain."
Everyone finally realized that your father was wearing a firefighter's jacket. he was a fireman.
"calm down? you've got to be kidding me," he was losing control. "I want you to step aside and let me talk to my daughter," he pointed at the boys in front of him, but no one moved.
you touched Buck's arm in acceptance, and he moved slightly to the side, just enough for Owen to see you.
his ironic laugh echoed through the room and your heart heaved. this was your father, how could he do this to you, again?
"you have no idea what you've done. I almost lost my job because of you, you little bit-“
"because of me?" your voice came out loud, catching everyone off guard. you stepped outside the barrier they had set up for your protection and anger took over. "you've always been a terrible father to me, we moved from New York because of TK, but I also had my life, I had my job, I had everything there, and do you remember what you said to me, dad? you said that you didn’t care, if I had enough money for it, than I should stay”
you got closer to Owen and the same look of anger that was in his eyes, you had in yours.
"I went to Texas with you, and you made my life a living hell, just like it always was with you. you didn't make it easy for me in 116, right? like never before in my life. until that day I never thought I could hate my father as much as I did from that moment on. in front of everyone you humiliated me, you belittled me, you showed me how much you never cared about me, and you hit me, dad. It's hard to put into words everything I've felt my whole life with you since my mother left us. I was just a child in need of your love, what did I do to deserve your resentment? I mean, I was a kid but I wasn’t clueless, I know that you hated me because of my mother, and I hated her too, cause she left me with you”
at that moment, tears were falling down your cheeks, but you didn't care anymore, you just needed to get it out. Owen tried to say something, but you cut him off again.
"I can forget, but never forgive. I'll never forgive you for the lost holidays, the lost birthdays, the lost childhood. all my past I've tried to erase it, but now I see, why would I change it? it made me who I am today, someone totally different from you, Owen. we might share a face and a last name, but we’re not the same. I hate you, and if I have to end your career to show you the extent of my hatred, I will fucking do it.”
as if time had slowed down, you saw the moment Owen's eyes filled with hatred, the exact moment he raised his hand towards you and approached. you were no longer afraid of him. you puffed out your chest and raised your face.
the hit never came.
Bobby held your father's hand in the air and stopped in front of you.
“get out of my firehouse right now, or I'll get you out myself. and if you dare to go near her again, you'll have this same conversation, but it'll be at a table in the police station and with my wife, the sergeant.”
the tension in the air was thick. Owen took one last look at you and turned around, leaving in heavy steps. TK didn't even bother to look at you, he just followed his father like a lost dog. coward.
suddenly all eyes were on you.
"I'm sorry" you said to Bobby in a shaky voice and he nodded. "I'm sorry, thank you" you repeated before he said anything. you felt a soft touch on your arm and turned to Buck, and that's when everything in you seemed to break again. the tears came out without you realizing it and the thank you came out in sobs.
"thank you" you kept repeating between sobs, and he quickly pulled you into his arms. the crying intensified and he just held you in, stroking your back. you tried to speak but nothing came out.
you could hear Bobby telling everyone to get out of the kitchen and you sank further into Buck's arms, letting yourself cry. cry for the situation that had just occurred, crying for your lost childhood, crying for your mother having abandoned you, crying for never having had a father who truly loved you, crying for everything you didn't have.
Buck's heart broke with every sob that came out of your mouth. he wanted to pull you deeper and deeper into his embrace, to take that pain away from you, the pain he knew so well. the pain of not being loved by your own parents, the pain of rejection. he wanted to make it clear that you had someone who cared, that you had him there at that moment. and it all made sense now, you saying that no one cared about you, because it was true.
"come on, let's go home" he said when he realized that your sobs had turned into small sighs. when he noticed that you were about to say something, he spoke faster. "no need to apologize or thank me, I've got your back"
*
what a mess.
what a mess your life has become.
it was late afternoon, the sun was setting in LA, and you were admiring the sky from your window. the coffee in your hand was already cold, and to be honest, it would be the first thing of the day to enter your stomach.
after an early morning visit from Bobby at your place, he suggested that you took a few personal days off, and you couldn't refuse, you needed it, your head and heart needed the rest. as the conversation went on, it was hard to accept that the man in front of you treated you with more empathy and love than the one who was supposed to be your father, they held the same position in the corporation, but they were totally different. Bobby defended and looked after you even though he hadn't known you for so long, while the other hurt you for a lifetime. life was unfair.
the silence was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell and nothing could have prepared you for that scene.
"hey there, we brought dinner, I hope you don't mind"
it was Buck with Jee-Yun on his arms, he held some bags in his unoccupied hand, and she held a small bouquet of flowers in her little hands.
"B-Buck, I-I"
"can we come in?" he asked and you moved out of the way.
"this is for you" the child's voice echoed in the room and she handed you the flowers. your eyes filled with tears and you smiled at the little girl.
"thank you sweetie, I love it. did you choose it?" she smiled and nodded.
Buck took some drawings and colored pencils out of a bag and the girl ran to the table.
"Buck" you entered in front of the blue-eyed man and he stopped what he was doing, paying attention to you. too much attention. "I'm sorry about yesterday, I know we haven't had a chance to talk yet, but thank you" you finished, your cheeks reddening as you realized you were too close to Buck.
"I told you, you don’t have to thank me" he replied as if it were nothing and went through his bags. "I hope you're hungry, I brought your favorite”
"how do you know this is my favorite?" you heart was beating a little faster and your cheeks were getting redder. Buck shrugged and looked at you with a smirk on his face.
"I heard you talking about it"
it's not like he was paying much attention to you, he just heard you talking about it with the guys. no big deal. maybe you were too sensitive about the whole situation and your head was creating scenarios.
it was an amazing evening. Buck never mention what had happened the day before, let alone treat you with pity, Jee-Yun was the sweetest girl in the world, and apparently she loved your company, to the point of ending the night sleeping on your lap. you were concentrating on the childish smell coming off her, when you noticed Buck looking at you.
"what?"
"you're good with children" he replied smiling, and your damn heart beat faster again.
"I really like them" you went back to touching Jee-Yun's hair, when you heard a muffled laugh coming from Buck. "what's so funny?"
"if I'd known that a dose of toddler would stop you hating me, I'd have brought her a lot sooner." his words made you smile.
"I told you I didn't hate you, I just didn't like you that much" he laughed again. his smile was so beautiful.
"we'd better get going, I promised her parents I wouldn't take her home late" he said as he approached and you gave him the sleepy kid.
"of course" you watched the way he tucked the little girl into his big arms and followed him to the door. "thank you for the evening, I really needed it"
"it was nothing, you're great company, she loved you" he said, pointing at his niece. "I'll see you later"
you kinda liked Evan Buckley now.
*
"I know you asked me not to bring anything, but I couldn't help myself, I'm sorry," Buck said, entering your apartment with a jar full of cookies.
"when did you cook that? you know what, never mind" you said laughing, turning your attention back to the food.
after the visit with his niece, Buck showed the next day again, and every other day after that with dinner, he didn't miss a single day. it was amazing how Buck made everything lighter, on the days when your thoughts wouldn't give you a break, he would find a way to distract you, or when you wanted to talk, he knew how to listen to you, or when you just wanted to be quiet, he would accompany you in silence. Buck never mentioned what had happened with your family, never asked you anything, he always made you feel comfortable in his presence, and you were getting used to it.
your heart proved treacherous around the blue-eyed man, apparently it started beating faster when Buck was around, and you didn't know what was going on.
"a penny for your thoughts" Buck took you out of your head and you realized how close he was.
"I-I... Sorry, I was just, just focused on the food"
"you didn't have to worry, you know I don't mind bringing it"
"I know, but I also know that today was a hard day, so I wanted to prepare something for you, and thank you for, you know, everything" you couldn't look him in the eye and Buck pulled you close, staring at you, it unsettled you.
"I've already told you there's no need to thank me, I enjoy your company"
your face was hot and you were sure it was red. but from this angle Buck's eyes looked much bluer than usual, and his lips with a slight smile were so beautiful and inviting.
"I think something's burning," Buck said in a whisper and too close to your face.
"o-oh, yeah, okay" God, you were pathetic.
living with a father and a brother meant that you would never have anyone to have girls talk. living with a father and a brother who hated you meant that you would never have any personal conversations of any kind. this kind of trauma made it hard for you to open up to people and maintain friendships. being at 118 was everything you'd never had in your life, and it was the biggest change of your life, because they didn't just work together, they were family and made you feel part of it too.
this trauma also reflected on your romantic life, you never really fell in love, you didn't really know what it was like. when a guy talked about feelings, you decided it was time to walk away.
and believing that you hated Buck was much more comfortable, because being with him and realizing the person he really was, was making you confused. the way he took care of you without wanting anything in return made your heart beat stronger. how he came to you during the day to see if everything was all right, if you were feeling well. or the dinners that became your thing now, you would always have dinner together, no matter where or how. this had been going on for months.
your feelings for Buck were growing, but how would they not. he was so affectionate, so kind, so easy to be around, you were always anxious to be around him, and loved looking into those big blue eyes when he was too focused on something to notice you staring, the way he always touched you to draw your attention, the way he kept flirting with you just to see your face turn red, the way your body reacted when he was around. Buck was breathtaking. and he wasn’t making things any easier for you, it was really easy to fall in love with Buck.
oh damn.
you were in love with Evan Buckley.
*
"hey you okay?" you were startled by a voice breaking the silence in the locker room, it was Eddie.
"you scared me"
"I usually do that to people" he said, sitting down next to you and you laughed.
"idiot"
"what happened between you and Buck? you didn’t leave with him today"
"nothing" you looked away and Eddie knew something was wrong between you.
"did you guys had a fight? It's not like you're not together all the time, every second of the day" he teased.
"no, it's fine"
"come on, something must-"
"I'm in love with him" you blurted out.
you got up from the bench and started walking around the room anxiously, Eddie stayed silent waiting for you to continue.
"I'm in love with him, Eddie, and I don't know what to do with this information, I'm kind of freaking out in here" you said, pointing to your heart and then to your head. "this has never happened before, I've never liked anyone enough to stay, and I want to stay, I want this, I want to feel this and I want to feel it with him. it's very easy to like Buck, I mean, have you seen that smile? the way he smiles when he's up to something or when he laughs at his own jokes, which, let's face it, are terrible. and those blue eyes? they're the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen in my life. but I'm terrified, that's the truth. I've never seen him in a relationship, a real one, what's to say he'd want one with me? that's taking into account that he likes me, which he clearly doesn't, I mean, I know he likes me as a friend, we have such a good friendship, but he certainly doesn't like me in a romantic way, I'm sure of that, have you seen what a mess I am? If you haven't, I'm telling you now, I'm a mess Eddie, and Buck is so-so"
"I thought you liked my jokes" you stopped in shock and looked at the door.
Buck.
"Buck I-I"
"I think that's my cue to leave the lovebirds alone," Eddie said as he left and you hadn't even noticed that he was still there.
"so you like me, huh?" he said coming closer and you really wished there was a hole to stick your head in.
"Buck" you sighed defeatedly, how embarrassing was this. "I like you, I like you a lot"
"then we have to talk" he said seriously and your heart sank. this was the time you would be rejected. again.
"Buck, don't. I know you'll say you don't feel the same way, and frankly I don't need any more humiliation, it's enough that you've heard all this. I'm fine and I'll be fine, I promise you" you picked up your things, still not facing Buck. "I'm going home now, let's just pretend this never happ-"
"I like you" he stopped in front of you and with his face too close to yours, continued to speak "oh fuck it, I'm in love with you, completely, deeply, truly in love with you”
his hands were on your face holding you in place. your heart couldn't even fit in your chest anymore, and you were probably going to cry at any second.
"i love how comfortable you feel next to me, i love how you fix your hair when you get nervous, or when you turn red when i flirt with you. i love all your smiles, the happy one, the stupid one, the ironic one, and especially the one that's mine. the one that's kept just for me, when we're having dinner together, or when i meet you in the middle of the shift, or when you meet me in the middle of the scene to check if i'm okay. that will always be my favorite. i love how you make me feel at home anywhere and at anytime. you are home. I love you.”
you were definitely crying at that point.
"I think I'm in love with you too" you joked and Buck brought his face even closer to yours.
"oh you think?" he had that damn smirk on his face. "let me prove then that I'm worth being loved by you"
his mouth touched yours, and your stomach felt like a house of uncontrolled butterflies. his lips were so soft, one hand held your face while the other found your waist. your body was pressed against a wall. and suddenly your tongues were entwined in a passionate, anxious kiss. your breaths were uncontrolled and Buck had to break away when a low moan came from your mouth. he wouldn't last long with those noises you were making.
"I think we'd better go home" he said breathless.
"I'll go anywhere with you"
you definitely loved Evan Buckley.
you didn't know it yet, but Buck was about to show you that you were totally capable of being loved, and very much so. your family's story wouldn't be repeated, you wouldn't follow your family's line, you would create your own. the most beautiful love story ever seen.

Law x Reader ― sick day; stargazing
part of the cozy holidays event
Tumblr media
🎁 ― @splicer13vex tags: sfw, fluff, GN!Reader, no use of y/n, cw vomiting, some platonic heart pirates x reader, not part of the request but what the hell let’s throw in some accidental confession in here too as a xmas gift
Tumblr media
“How are you feeling?”
Your Captain's voice was the first thing you heard when you regained consciousness.
You were shivering, your head was pounding, and your stomach churned unsettlingly. You had not felt this bad in ages.
“Terrible,” you croaked out weakly.
“Good.” Law said in a deadpan voice, “Serves you right for being stupid.”
You cringed, preparing yourself for the impending scolding from the Captain and Doctor of the Heart Pirates.
He took a deep breath, “What were you thinking?”
Here we go.
“You should know better than to touch and smell some suspicious, unknown plant on an island we barely knew anything about.”
“In my defense, the flower was very pretty.”
He groaned exasperatedly, “Many poisonous things are!”
“I’m sorry.” You sighed, “I now realize how stupid that was.”
“Why did you do it anyway?”
“I wanted to show it to you.” You shrugged, “I just thought you’d find it interesting.”
His eyes softened, his frustration melting away at your earnest response. For the record, he did find the flower interesting. In fact, he even went back to retrieve some samples – using proper protective gear, of course – once he made sure you were alright. He wouldn't admit that to you, though, not wanting to justify your reckless actions.
You suddenly felt your stomach lurch, and Law immediately grabbed a bucket, just in time for you to retch your guts out.
“Let it all out,” Law said, rubbing gentle circles on your back, “I managed to extract most of the poison with my powers, but some traces may still be in your bloodstream.”
You grimaced at the feel of acid burning your throat. Law handed you a glass of water, which you gulped down greedily.
“Here, take this.” He handed you a pill, “Should help with the nausea.”
“Thanks.”
You laid back down on the bed once you’d taken the medicine, pulling the blanket tight around your shivering body. The Polar Tang must have been underwater, judging by the chill inside the sub. You wondered how long you were out.
“I need to discuss our next course with Bepo,” said Law as he touched the back of his hand to your forehead, nodding satisfactorily when he detected no fever.
“You’re on bed rest until tomorrow.” He pointed his index finger at you, “Stay. Put. No funny business, you hear me?”
You nodded.
“Say it out loud.”
You rolled your eyes, “Aye, aye, doctor. No funny business, I promise.”
“Good.” He patted your head once before walking toward the door that led to the hallway. He looked back at you just before he exited, “Try to get some sleep.”
Your mood instantly dropped at Law’s absence – suddenly all of your symptoms felt ten times worse without him there to distract you.
You heeded Law’s words and tried to get some rest, but sleep eluded you. After around half an hour of you just tossing and turning in bed, the door suddenly swung open, and you brightened at the sight of a fluffy, white head popping in from behind it.
“Hi, sorry!” Bepo tiptoed quietly into the room, “Am I bothering you? Sorry, I just wanted to see how you were doing.”
“I’m feeling a bit better now that you’re here.” You chuckled, “And stop saying sorry, you’re not bothering me.”
“Sorry.” The mink automatically replied, before realizing what he said, “Ah, sorr–“
He chose to just shut his mouth after that.
“You came at the right time actually – I was just about to lose my mind from boredom.” You sighed, “I need some fresh air. I think that would help a bit with the nausea.”
Bepo dragged a chair and sat down next to your bed, “Oh, we’re just about to surface actually. We’re in the open ocean now, so–“
He gasped loudly and covered his mouth with his large paws, “I’m sorry! Please forget that!”
You grinned at the prospect of getting out of here and inhaling some much-needed ocean breeze.
“Oh, Captain’s gonna kill me!” The polar bear looked at you with his big, round, glistening eyes, “Sorry, I know you wanted to go out, but will you please just stay in the sick bay?”
You melted at his cuteness, patting his soft paw reassuringly, “Okay, I will. Don’t worry!”
He sighed in relief and got up, “Oh, great. I’m gonna help prepare the sub for resurfacing now. Please don’t go anywhere and get some rest!”
Once the Polar Tang successfully rose to sea level, Penguin came by with some soup, bringing over his own dinner to keep you company while you ate.
He didn’t tell you, but you had a feeling he was also under strict orders from Law to make sure that you properly consumed every single drop of that soup.
The clear broth was hearty, warm, and delicious, but you still struggled to keep it down as the remnants of the poison wreaked havoc on your stomach.
Your promise to stay put in the sick bay lasted only about two hours after that.
Once it was lights-out time, you crept through the dark hallway, heading towards the main door leading to the outside of the submarine.
You cringed as the wheel creaked slightly when you turned it, but all worries of getting busted sneaking out were forgotten as soon as the first rush of fresh air entered your lungs.
You spread the blankets you brought from the sick bay on the deck, before sitting on top of it and leaning your head back against the railing.
The stars were out tonight and you looked up at them appreciatively, savoring the unobstructed view of the heavens that only a seafarer could observe.
“I should’ve known you wouldn’t stay put.”
You whipped your head toward the sound of the familiar voice, smiling guiltily at the man leaning against the open door.
“Sorry.” You said, not really sounding apologetic at all, “It was getting stuffy inside.”
The reprimand you expected from him never came, and instead, Law just sat down next to you with a sigh.
He was silent, eyes trained toward the stars.
You could tell that something was bothering him, but you stayed quiet, patiently waiting until he was ready to speak.
“I thought I was gonna lose you today.”
The vulnerability in his voice shook you, and you felt your heart race in anticipation of what he would say next.
“You went to smell that damn flower and suddenly you just… collapsed, and I didn’t know what to do.”
He took off his hat and ran his hand through his hair, “Fuck, I’m a doctor and I froze. My mind went blank, my hands wouldn’t move. You should thank Shachi for snapping me out of it, by the way. There’s a reason why on some islands, doctors are not allowed to treat the people they lov–“
Your heart skipped a beat when he abruptly stopped, realizing that he was letting out more than he meant to.
“What were you about to say?”
His lips stayed pressed together, and he brought one of his hands up to cover the redness spreading across his cheeks.
“Law,” You took his hand away from his handsome face and tightly gripped it, “Please.”
“I… care about you, alright?” He finally admitted, face flushed and eyes firmly on the sky.
It wasn’t what he was initially about to unintentionally confess, but it was more than you ever hoped to hear from him.
“I know I’m your Captain, and you’re my subordinate. It was never my intention to… fall for you, but I did, and there’s nothing I can do about it now. I’m sorry if this makes you uncomfortable. Please feel free to just forget about it.”
You grabbed his face in between your hands, turning his head and letting him see your bright smile.
His eyes widened slightly as you pulled him in and pressed your lips tenderly against his.
His surprise only lasted a second, and then he was kissing you back, and it was so much better than the million times this scene had played out in your daydreams.
The stars were the only witnesses as he held you impossibly close, melding your lips together in a slow, delicate dance.
You sighed softly against his lips, “I’ve wanted to do that for so long, you have no idea.”
Law gave you one of his rare, genuine smiles, and your heart soared. Oh, the things you would give to see his smile every day.
He firmly gripped the back of your neck and brought you in for another kiss.
Of course, your stomach chose that exact time to ruin the moment.
You quickly stood up and leaned over the railing, purging the soup you ate back out from the way it went down.
Law chuckled teasingly, “Should I be offended? Do I repulse you that much?”
“Shut up!” You whined, “You know it’s not like that!”
He rubbed your back soothingly as you finished emptying your stomach into the ocean below. His hand was pleasantly warm even through the fabric of your shirt.
“C’mon,” he placed a gentle kiss on your temple, “Let’s get you back inside.”
“Can we stay outside for a few more minutes?”
You looked at him with a pleading gaze until he relented and said, “Fine, five more minutes. But you need to layer up.”
He took off his jacket and put it on you, before taking one of the blankets and draping it on top of that.
You dragged him down to lay flat on the deck, and his arm immediately went underneath your head, pillowing it from the cold, hard surface.
You two ended up staying out there for way more than five minutes.
You pointed out some of the familiar constellations that Bepo had taught you as you took comfort in the warmth of his body against yours. It wasn’t long until you felt your eyelids flickering close.
Law only smiled softly when he noticed your breathing slowed into a steady rhythm.
He gathered you in his arms – one arm under your legs and the other supporting your back – and carried you back into the submarine.
He could’ve just used his powers to “shambles” you both inside in a snap, but he found himself unable to resist holding you in his arms for even one second longer.
Not that he would ever admit that to anyone.

Good Omens graphic novel update: June 2024
Welcome to the June update. A lot of behind the scenes work at the moment but we're grabbing the travel sweets, popping in the Bentley and hitting the road. More on that below.
Admin
Ongoing reminder that the project FAQ can be found here.
I pledged using my Apple ID, or no longer use the address my pledge is attached to, or I cannot work out what email address my pledge is connected to. What should I do? Please contact us via your Kickstarter account where the pledge is connected; we will be able to see on our system which address it is. If it's one you have access to, great! The FAQ has information on how to resend your invite link to access the PledgeManager. If it's one you are not able to access, then you can let us know which email is preferred and we can update this on the system, which will automatically send a new invite.
Events
We've had a lot of queries about when the Good Omens team will be attending events more formally, after some Aziraphale and Crowley spotting at conventions we'd been to previously. Well, we're excited to confirm the first: Good Omens HQ will be at ACME Comic Con in Glasgow, Scotland this September.
Tumblr media
We'll be bringing the actual-real-life-home-to-Crowley-and-his-plants Bentley from Season 2 of Good Omens, the first time the car has been made available publicly for fans to come see and get photos with, ahead of its journey back to the set and the start of Season 3 filming.
We also see Quelin Sepulveda, aka Muriel, has been announced for the event for some additional ineffable joy.
You can get your tickets for ACME Comic Con here. We hope to see some of you there.
Tumblr media
While we won't be rocking up with the Bentley to this next one, we want to let you know about Ineffable Con which, though sold out in person, is also taking place virtually in July. The fan-run event hosts great panels, auctions and more, with money raised going to Alzheimer’s Research UK, in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett.
Where next? We have - not an exaggeration - a list of about 200 events somewhere from when we asked fans this on Instagram and while we can't promise quite that amount of convention attendance, we're certainly looking to do some more things in future with Good Omens at large. Watch this space.
Good Omens items...
This month has largely seen prototypes and samples for the wider Good Omens merch store arriving, and while we can't share those yet, we are certainly excited to see more fan product suggestions coming to life. That does, however, leave our public item updates a little slim on the ground.
To make up for that, here's some new panels from Colleen:
Tumblr media
Also known as, "What could possibly go wrong?" And:
Tumblr media
Also known as, "Well why don't you ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇!@#▇" or words to that effect, we'd imagine.
Update from Colleen
Following such a positive response to Colleen's piece last month, bringing you behind the scenes into making the Good Omens graphic novel, we are delighted to say that she has agreed to write something for our updates going forward! For June, she's going more in depth into the process of flatting and the technicalities of colouring on screen vs print. Over to you, Colleen.
---
I mentioned the other month that I use a flatter to help me with technical work on GOOD OMENS, and here is a great example.
This is my original, hand drawn line art.
Tumblr media
And this is the flatting file which was created using the MultiFill computer program.
Tumblr media
It will put your eyes out.
The raw image above demonstrates how the color art lines up solidly under the line art. If it doesn't do that, you get a weird phenomenon in print called ghosting, a tiny little line of white around each segment of color. I had this issue on one major project and ended up redoing every single color file after I got a look at the first printing. Nearly two weeks of work.
The same image with the line art on top.
Tumblr media
The layer order looks like this.
Tumblr media
Background copy is the clean, line art layer.
I scan the art at 600 dpi, then make the blacks pure black, the whites pure white. Then I convert back to greyscale, then RGB, then duplicate the layer. Then I delete the white on the upper layer so the line art layer is transparent but the blacks on that layer are not.
If you have blacks on a layer that has been multiplied, you can see slight color through those blacks. You want pure black.
The lower layer is where I use the MultiFill program to create the digital flats. First you use MultiFill to drop in the random colors, then the companion plug-in Flatter Pro to make those colors seal under the black lines.
This probably sounds like a silly thing to worry about, but if the flat colors don’t line up perfectly under the black line art, you get the dreaded ghosting I mentioned. You can see it below in this image. It’s a tiny little white line that will appear around the black lines and color areas.
Tumblr media
This drives me nuts and is an absolute nightmare to fix.
It’s a very common problem, especially for people who work for web and don’t anticipate the problems going from web to print.
What looks great on your computer can cause big problems in print.
From here, my flatter Jul Mae Kristoffer, who is way over in the Philippines, does flatting that is more in keeping with the areas of color I want to isolate. As you see on Layer 1.
Tumblr media
But again, this is still pretty ugly, and not what I would use for final color. Flatting is a technical issue, not a creative one, though in some cases a flatter will make choices you may use. Most of the time they don't.
Here is my final color page.
Tumblr media
Sometimes my MultiFill flats are so wonky I have a hard time getting my brain to snap out of what I see before me. If I get stuck, it's a good idea to just pick at it and come back to it later.
If it really, really bothers me, I’ll take the MultiFill flatter layer and desaturate the color so it doesn’t poke my eyes out.
Here’s an example. The digital flat file.
Tumblr media
The desaturated flat file that doesn’t make me want to poke my eyes out.
Tumblr media
And the final color.
Tumblr media
Sometimes I just put in a solid white layer so I don’t see the flats at all. Flatting is there to allow you to easily pick spots to color in, and doesn’t usually appear in the final work.
Sometimes I want to create my colors using transparent color over a white ground, which is more delicate in the final.
Here’s an example from Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. I also selected all black line art here and converted it to sepia to give it a vintage look. Except for the fairies. They’re green.
Tumblr media
A colorist must also consider color settings.
Different clients can have different requirements. I find these color settings, which I got from the Hi-Fi Studio, to be pretty solid. I use them as my default for all my projects unless otherwise requested. If your publisher has other settings, they’ll usually send you a csf file which you can upload to Photoshop. The program will save your files and you can just switch between them as you need them.
Tumblr media
This tells the printer things about the paper and the spread of the ink you will use. That’s what dot gain means - it makes printed color look darker than intended, so you set up your files to account for it.
When you hover your pointer over each box, it will tell you what each setting is supposed to accomplish.
Another really important thing to consider when coloring comics is color range.
I’m coloring this book in RGB range, but for print you use CMYK.
I’m about to confuse the heck out of some people with this post, I’m afraid. But here we go.
Here is this shot in RGB color setting.
Tumblr media
And here is the same page calibrated for print in CMYK.
Tumblr media
The biggest shift is in the reds. Print cannot match those reds.
You may not see much difference here, but it’s the sort of thing that drives artists crazy.
A computer should be perfect for conveying exactly what you want, right? It's all just 0's and 1's, binary information, and that information should be the same from one computer to the next?
Nope. Not even close.
First off, computer monitors must be calibrated. You can use a computer program or a tool that measures the color on your computer screen and then adjusts the color to an industry standard.
Have you ever been in an electronics shop where a bunch of TV shows were on display, all of them playing the same show, and have you noticed how different the color was from one TV to the next?
It's like that.
I freely admit I don't pay a whole lot of attention to calibration, but if I were a professional photographer I would. I'd have a little spectrometer attached to my screen and software would adjust my monitor to the best possible standard range. As it is, I just use the default setting on my computer and hope for the best.
If your monitor is properly calibrated and your art is shown on another monitor that is properly calibrated, the art will look almost identical from one monitor to the next.
YAY!
But from one monitor to the next, that's about where the resemblance ends.
Colors are calibrated to something called RGB, or Red, Green, Blue.
All colors come from a mix of red green and blue. At their greatest intensity, all the colors in the spectrum together become pure white light.
This is why RGB is called ADDITIVE color, because you ADD colors from the spectrum to get ALL colors, and all colors create the entirety of the rainbow, and pure white light.
Your computer monitor, your phone, your television, all images are created via light using RGB, a gamut that covers all possible colors that can be created.
That's a lot.
And that's why some of the colors you see on your TV or phone are so deep and intense.
For the widest possible range of color and intensity, you use RGB.
Unfortunately, there is what you can create with light, and then there is what you can create with pigment or ink. And that is why printing what you see on your computer almost never looks exactly like what you see in a book.
Tumblr media
For printing, you must use a color setting known as CMYK. This stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key/Black.
In printing, the pure blue is actually Cyan and the pure red is actually Magenta.
CMYK color range is not created by addition, but by SUBTRACTION. In order to get the color you want, you reduce the percentage of one of the four colors for ink mixing. Mixing all colors, instead of giving you white, gives you black.
The gamut of CMYK is limited to what can be created with ink.
You've probably heard the term four color press? This is what that means. Four colors, with each color of ink run over the paper on rollers which, combined in varying layers of opacity, create all the printing colors you see.
But remember, what you see on your computer monitor and what CMYK gamut can handle are two different things.
Now, I’ve been really careful with the color settings on Good Omens, so there haven’t been any big surprises, but let me show you a snippet of a project I did for the French fashion house Balmain.
The RGB version:
Tumblr media
And then this shot after it was converted to a CMYK file for print.
Tumblr media
That's a pretty big difference.
Now, you see this shift mostly with vibrant colors, such as that pink there. But other colors hardly changed at all, right?
That's because this issue is about range of color. CMYK and RGB occupy a shared range which you can see demonstrated by this graphic I got from Wikipedia.
Tumblr media
The graphic shows the RGB ranges supported by various digital formats. SWOP CMYK is the most common range my publishers use. Note that the bounding box line shared by the RGB and SWOP CMYK formats shares about half the range space. So whatever RGB colors you use that are outside that range will be digitally converted to the smaller SWOP CMYK range.
And you may not like what you end up with.
As you can see, some of the most ethereal and intense colors get lost outside of the SWOP CMYK boundary.
A look at the Dark Horse Comics color settings in Photoshop. Theoretically, this information should prevent your art from looking like mud on publication.
Tumblr media
Now, after I just told you the dangers of coloring in RGB then converting to CMYK for print, I tell you I am coloring Good Omens in RGB anyway. There’s a couple of reasons for this.
Remember, RGB give you a greater range of color, so it can be to your advantage to preserve your original files using a format that gives you the greatest range.
Again, here is the unaltered file.
Tumblr media
You can see what the CMYK result will be simply by clicking the Proof Colors button here. This will show you how the art will convert.
Tumblr media
And the Gamut Warning will show you which colors are out of gamut range for print.
Tumblr media
The intensity of that magenta and that purple in the top right are not going to print true.
This is how it will look in final.
Tumblr media
So even if you do what you think is perfect color on screen, there is no way it can perfectly convert to print. Almost everything will involve a little bit of compromise.
Even though you have to consider the color shift issues, preserving your files in RGB gives you greater wiggle room, especially if you get lucky someday and get to work with a printer who can print in 6 colors. Or maybe some technology you don’t know about will pop up and make printing super glorious. Who knows.
Regardless, you should keep an eye on that gamut and color for CMYK print, while preserving your master files in RGB.
Until next time.

"much love, laufey" - a mini series by @liliesformingi. view series masterlist, and outline here.
3. 'valentine' - yunho x reader “i tell him he's pretty too, can i say that?”
author's note: bring me 900 million jeong yunhos right now.
Tumblr media
People raised their eyebrows at you for rooming with a guy. “And you don’t have feelings for him?” they’d ask, over and over.
But Yunho wasn’t just a guy, he was your friend. Supportive, protective, kind. He was a comfortable presence, something familiar.
Yunho was studying sports science and physiology at university, but also wrote lyrics on the side. You knew he loved physiology and understanding the human body, but music was what he truly loved, what he spent ungodly hours working at and obsessing over.  But it’s not stable enough, he’d sigh, stretching his arms before returning to the essay on human development he’d been procrastinating for the past week.
You were studying psychology, but also took art history classes on the side. Yunho knew art was something you desperately wanted to pursue, but it was the same as it was for him. You took the smart route. Not necessarily the easy one, or the one you liked. You did what you needed to, securing your futures.
Both of you were scared of risking something, messing stuff up.
He’d bring you an iced coffee when he knew you’d forgotten to drink one while studying.
You’d make his preworkout for him to take before he went to the gym.
He’d go out and buy things for you when it was that time of month and you couldn’t get out of bed.
You’d blow dry his hair late at night when he was too tired to do it himself, insisting he’d get sick if he went to bed with damp hair.
He’d comfort you after each failed date, after each guy ghosted you or simply told you “You’re not what I want.”
Basically, you two were cosy.
It had been a quiet day. Both of you had upcoming exams, not for another few weeks, but close enough that it felt real, and both of you had fears of not doing enough. So if that meant going through notes for hours and revising on the sofa while he sat at the dining table, tapping his pen along to whatever he was listening to with his headphones while occasionally annotating a diagram, so be it.
Eventually, you were bored, hungry and worn out.
Yunho had dark circles under his eyes, and you were struggling to retain your gaze on the harsh light of your laptop, but both of you refused to give up. Until you checked your phone and realised it was 3pm, and you were yet to have lunch, let alone breakfast.
“Oh, shit,” you mumbled, standing up and stretching before you made your way into the kitchen. You automatically pulled out two bowls and ripped open a packet of yours and his favourite ramen, setting the water to boil while you chopped vegetables and stirred the soup.
You set the steaming bowl in front of him along with a pair of chopsticks and a spoon. He looked up gratefully, taking his headphones off and shoving his work aside. “Thank you, angel, I’m sorry, I could’ve made myself something-”
“Don’t worry, Yun, it’s fine,” you sat down opposite him, beginning to eat your food. You slurped noodles and yawned, occasionally exchanging the odd comment about work or school. You asked him about his music projects he was working on, and he started off on a vivid explanation about this amazing website of free music samples he’d found. You watched him happily, resting your chin in your hands.
“Sorry, I’ve been talking for a while,” Yunho chuckled. “How’s stuff with you? Got a psych exam coming up, yeah?”
“Mhmm. I just . . . my head’s in it, but my heart kinda isn’t. And it’s a lot of work. I’m tired all the time,” you yawned and stretched. “And my shoulders hurt like hell from sitting so awkwardly for hours.”
Yunho tilted his head a little. “C’mere.”
You stood up and winced slightly, waddling over towards him. He stood up, gesturing for you to sit in his place. You sat down, rolling your neck. He started pressing his hands into your shoulders, upper arms and neck; each movement releasing the pent up tension and stress from your body.
“Feel a bit better?”
“Mm, feels nice, Yun,” you sighed, leaning your head back and looking up at him.
Yunho didn’t know what came over him in that moment. Hands still resting on your shoulders, he leant down, and kissed your forehead.
You gasped a little, body startling. “Yunho, what the fuck?”
“I’m so sorry,” he gasped, immediately redacting his hands from your shoulders. “I don’t know why the hell I did that. Actually, no, I do know, and that’s the problem.”
“Yun-”
“No, let me talk. Please. I like you. Not even like, maybe love, I don’t know. And it hurts, knowing you probably don’t feel the same way and it hurts seeing you go on those dates and get hurt. It hurts seeing you hurt yourself by overwhelming yourself with schoolwork. So maybe I should just go. Maybe that would help.”
“Yunho, shut up.”
He looked a little hurt at that, raising an eyebrow.
“Let me talk,” you replied, eyes sparkling and cheeks a little pink. “I like you too, maybe love. I don’t know either. You just . . . surprised me. But I want you . . . I want you to do that again. But not on the forehead. On the lips. Do it properly, please.”
Yunho walked back over, leaning down and placing a hand on your cheek.
“That I can do,” he smiled.

Senku and his S/O reuniting.
Remember how I said smart S/O would have their own thing going on? Well time for that conversation!
Senku and his crew would come across S/O’s friends before anything. They’d take them to the settlement and then to their lead scientist.
S/O would be in their lab muttering to themselves about a useful bacteria and taking samples. Even though they’re turned away Senku knows exactly who it is, and so do Taiju and Yuzuriha. Yuzu is about to cry, Taiju is already crying, and the rest of the crew watch in confusion. Kohaku and Gen are the first to notice how Senku is stunned and his eyes are glossed over.
S/O would still be rambling to their friends about their project. Until someone finally says something.
“S/OOOOOOOOOOOOO”
Then S/O looks up, taking off their goofy ass goggles.
“Taiju..?”
Taiju and Yuzu are already hugging them and crying.
“Oh my- wow! It’s so amazing you guys are here!”
Then Taiju puts them down.
“SORRY S/O THAT WAS RUDE.”
“It’s fi-”
“I should have known you were behind all this. As soon as I saw the automatic gate at the entrance.”
Senku is smirking and trying to save face, but everyone can see the unshed tears and the way his lip quivers slightly.
Now it’s S/O’s time to be stunned and still. They’re already crying, but seeing Senku hits a bit different. I like to think they had a fight before the petrification. S/O is about to speak but Senku puts his hand up.
“Before you go saying sorry, I’m sorry. I admit I was in the wrong then. You don’t have to apologize.”
That’s S/O’s cue to jump into his arms.
“So I’m guessing you guys know this person, huh.”
Taiju is still wiping his tears.
“Yeah! That’s Senku’s partner!”
Now everyone is shook. I’m talking nose running, utter disbelief.
“Sen..”
“Ku..”
“Part…..”
“Ner..”
“WHAT?”
Meanwhile S/O and Senku are hugging on the floor because he almost immediately fell when they tackled him.

Give me a Stan who thinks Fiddleford doesn't know how to throw a punch, much less defend himself in a fight with your average goon, so one morning he takes it upon himself to show the nerd a few basic jabs and hooks and maybe an uppercut or two behind the cabin, because let's face it, there's gonna be a time when Stan can't be there to take a hit for the guy or defend his nerd butt. So he's gonna teach him some stuff for his own peace of mind.
Fiddleford just kind of genially goes along with it, following Stan around the back of the cabin and watching with hands on his hips and a smile as Stan gets into position.
"This is one of the most basic punches in the world, so pay attention, 'cause I'm not gonna show you again," Stan says, knees slightly bent and fists up.
Fidds nods. "You've got my full attention, Stanley."
Stan isn't sure if he's imagining the way Fidds is eyeing him up and down, but he automatically flexes his arms a little more than he needs to. Up ahead, Ford is sitting on a tree stump and taking samples of the air or something (Stan had stopped listening to Ford's explanation once his words went from interesting to Big Science Shit that Stanley Does NOT Care About) and he's watching them with this amused grin, rolling his eyes skyward when Stan won't stop flexing and showing his arms off.
Stan ignores him and rolls his shoulders before jabbing his fists forward in a quick one-two. "There - you catch that?"
Fidds has got his arms crossed now and gives Stan a thumbs up. "Sure did!"
"See, just like this," Stan says, and shows him again despite saying earlier that he wouldn't.
He shows him a few more punches, going over each one a couple times before telling the engineer to mirror him, even getting in close to adjust the guy's scrawny arms and balled fists. He's being real professional about it and everything and doesn't understand why Ford keeps grinning and shaking his head at them, which is making him a little incensed but he stamps it down because Fidds is watching him with this nerdy, dopey smile while letting himself be maneuvered around and he's gotta learn to defend himself 'cause Stan can't stand the thought of some jerkwad wiping that smile off the nerd's face.
"See," he says near the end of the lesson, tapping his fist right against Fidds’s chin. "Do it right and your fist'll hit right here."
Fidds tilts his head a fraction at the touch. "Well alright then, seems easy enough."
"Yeah, like I said, if you do it right. Gimme your hand-" he takes Fidds’s wrist and taps the guy's balled fist against his own stubbly jaw. "Right here. You got that?"
Fidds nods. "Sure do!"
"Good." Stan drops Fidds’s wrist and gets into position again. "Then come on - lay one on me."
Fidds pulls back and blinks at him. "Come again?"
"Hit me!" Stan taps his jaw. "Right here!"
The guy suddenly looks nervous and galnces over at Ford for help. "Hit you? Stanley, I don't think-"
This is what Stan means. Fidds isn't always gonna be able to look to him or Ford to save him. He gets this weird, uncomfortable feeling in his chest at the thought of Fidds facing off against some asshat on his own, and that alone is enough to keep him from letting the guys off easy, if only to get rid of the weird feeling. Maybe a bit selfish but he doesn't care.
"Ah, come on, one little punch ain't gonna hurt ya, Fidds."
"I'm not worried about me," Fidds says, and then frowns when Stan barks a laugh.
"You think you're gonna hurt ME?"
Fidds is still frowning when Ford calls over in an amused, warning tone, "This is not a good idea, Stanely!"
"Just worry about your air test or whatever and leave us alone," Stan calls back. Ford shrugs and scribbles something in his journal, and when Stan turns back to Fidds, Fidds is finally getting into position.
He looks unsure, watching Stan nervously as Stan stands before him with his arms crossed.
"Hey, not bad form - you ready?"
"Well, I suppose so," Fidds says, accent coming in a little thicker than before. "Stan, if you're sure, I should probably warn ya-"
"Don't tell me nothing, just punch me!"
Fidds presses his lips into a line and throws his fist - and jabs Stan on the chin just hard enough to tilt Stan's head half an inch to the side.
"That's it?" Stan guffaws and shakes his head. "That was barely a tap!"
"I don't wanna hurt ya!" Fidds says, sounding so conflicted that Stan gets this urge to pull him into a headlock and ruffle his hair and drive the worry away.
Instead he riles him up.
"Please," he says. "Fidds, look - one of these days I'm not gonna be there to take a hit for you, and then what're you gonna do? Just let some jerk punch ya around?"
Fidds looks slightly perplexed. "Where is this all comin from? No, Stanley, I am NOT gonna just let some jerk punch me around."
"Good! So you gotta learn to defend yourself!" Fidds still looks unsure, so Stan tries a different angle. "Okay, how 'bout this - what if some jerks are beating up on me and Ford, huh? You're just gonna let em?"
Fidds looks up. "What? No, I am not!"
"You're gonna defend us?"
"Dangnabbit, Stan - of course I am!"
"Not gonna let us get our teeth kicked out?"
"What!? No!"
"Then show me!" Stan slaps a hand against his own chin. "Right here, come on! I'm some jerk who just threw your friend Stan to the ground and I'm about to kick him in the gut, what're ya gonna-"
The blow lands hard. Stan's head jerks to the side and he's thrown off balance, and he sees actual stars before his vision clears again and he realizes he's crumpled on the ground. His head swims as hands pull him around onto his back.
"Mother o pearl!" Fidds gasps. He's got his hands on Stan's face, careful touch at complete odds with the punch he'd just landed in the same place. "Are you alright? I am so sorry! I hit ya and you weren't even ready and - you just got me so riled up and I tried to tell ya and I shoulda said earlier instead o just lettin ya show me all those moves, but I just wanted to, well - goddangit, Ford, this ain't funny."
Ford's laughing as he comes up behind them, looking down at where Stan is staring kinda dazedly up at Fidds, who's kneeling by his side in the cool grass. "We did try to tell him, Fiddleford."
"Tell me what?" Stan demands. His jaw is already aching but Fidds’s hands feel kinda good so he doesn't tell him to move.
"Fiddleford was a boxing champion back back in his hometown," Ford says.
Stan blinks. "Bwuh-?"
"Not much of a champion," Fidds says with a wince, but he's blushing a bit as he goes on, "It was never anythin official, but - well, I did win more than a few matches at some backyard parties, see, and - well, people usually don't think I got any hittin power or can defend myself, but my Ma's been all too happy to teach me since I was little, and-"
The guy's rambling, and Stan quits being able to understand what he's saying half way through cause the accent is coming in thick and Ford’s chuckling and standing there looking proud of his best friend and Stan’s a little worried that he's still jarred from the hit, cause when he looks at Fidds kneeling there, one hand one Stan's chest and the other bashfully rubbing his neck while he rambles on - he's still seeing stars.
Later, while Stan sits in the living room with an bag of ice in his jaw and Fiddleford sitting next to him, still rambling about all the times he'd knocked a few guys into the mud in some backcountry hoedown get-together or whatever, Stan can lean back and relax and grin, knowing Fidds is gonna be just fine.
He can't wait to teach him wrestling.
